GP Opera with the GP Boys’ Choir presents The Daughter of the Regiment

GP Opera with the GP Boys’ Choir brings Donizetti’s beloved comic opera The Daughter of the Regiment (La fille du régiment) to the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre for two performances only.
This lively production features members of the GP Boys’ Choir as part of the Soldier Chorus, adding local voices to a classic story full of comedy, romance, music, and heart.
Performed in French with spoken French dialogue, English subtitles are provided so audiences can follow along with the full story on stage.
Meet Marie, a spirited young woman who was orphaned as a baby and raised by a regiment of French soldiers who proudly consider themselves her fathers. Brave, bold, and perfectly happy with life among the soldiers, Marie suddenly finds herself caught between family, duty, love, and the life she truly wants.
When she falls for Tonio, a local villager who once saved her life, her many overprotective “fathers” are not exactly thrilled. Things get even more complicated when a mysterious Marquise arrives with news from Marie’s past and whisks her away to become a proper lady... complete with high-society expectations, etiquette lessons, and an unwanted arranged marriage.
Can Tonio win Marie’s heart? Will her regiment of soldier-dads let her go? And will Marie choose the life expected of her, or the one that truly belongs to her?
Full of charm, humour, romance, and big voices, The Daughter of the Regiment is a family-friendly night out for opera lovers, live theatre fans, and anyone looking to experience something special on stage in Grande Prairie.
- Only two performances are available.
- Tickets start at $30, with family packs available!
